Arrival to the Hotel

Convento do Espinheiro is an amazing 15th century monument completely restored and transformed into a charming hotel.

The origin of Convento do Espinheiro is connected to a legend that reports the appearance of an image of the Virgin of Espinheiro, around 1400, given the growing importance of this place as a pilgrimage point, in 1458, the church was founded and later the convent.

King D. Manuel regularly visited the convent, it is said that it was at Convento do Espinheiro that this king received the news of the discovery of India by Vasco da Gama.

The most illustrious characters in the history of Portugal passed through this convent due to the devotion to Nossa Senhora do Espinheiro, it was always connected to the history of the city of Évora, but also of Portugal.

This is a trail built on top of an old railway, which is only for pedestrians or cyclers. You will cycle through farmland and most likely will find cows, sheep and beautiful horses. The eco trail starts very near the farm, and you will do this tour on your own.

We suggest you take a picnic with you, and take as long as you feel like!
Leaving the eco trail for a few kms you can visit a lake and cycle along it, or visit a lovely hamlet with traditional architecture.

We will leave the hotel in the morning, after our delicious breakfast, and take you to a calm and scenic river. We will take you in our jeep along some countryside dirt roads.
Our drivers/guides are extremely careful and very knowledgeable, and you will learn a lot about the cork trees, the olive trees and the olive oil along the way.

Arriving at the river we will do some canoeing (don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe!) and, if we are lucky, see some herons, storks or ducks.
On the way back we drop you off in Évora, where you can have lunch and spend the afternoon visiting the lovely city.

We will pick you up later (lunch not included).

A beautiful 8 km walk to Évora through farm land, along the aqueduct of Évora (half day).
The afternoon is free to enjoy the pool, visit the city or, if you have a car, visit one of the many gorgeous villages around Évora.

We have active, relaxing and cultural suggestions for your day.

Today we have many surprises for you!

We will start by discovering the aromatic herbs that grow in the farm, which are used for many of our traditional dishes!
Then plant a tree, and leave your long lasting print at the farm, a reason to come back some day.
But remember you must water it during your stay at the farm!

We finish with an archery tournament, which can be done with kids since 4 or 5 years old, with the supervision of our guide

Note: If there are no children we can substitute the 6th day for adifferent activity.

By jeep and walking, we will discover many megalithic monuments that remind us of ancient times!
The oldest monument dates from 5000 BC!
The tour can be done fully by car or have a lot of walking involved.

In one of the evenings we suggest you to try our Cooking Class!

We will teach how to prepare a delicious Alentejo meal. We use ingredients you will find at home so that when you go back you can invite your friends for a slide show and a great dinner.

If you buy this as an extra dinner, cost will be 38,50 € per person. If you want to up grade one of the already included dinners, cost will be 20 € per person.
