Day 1 - Chegada (08 jun)

Arrival to Ponte da Barca.
18h00 – Opening of the secretariat – Check up of cars and document’s and clothes delivery.
19h00 – Welcome drink

Day 2 - Ponte da Barca to Gerês (09 jun)

We explored the Gerês National Park. Narrow, steep and winding roads, the real feeling of “I’m in the middle of nowhere”. Keep this for a few days! This is a truly isolated part of our country. Your classic will be the only car on the road! Along the way, cows, horses, distant views and some impressive streams that bring peace and tranquility to the harsh rocky landscape. What do I like most? …. The Espigueiros do Lindoso, granite structures, built above the ground, to protect crops from rodent animals. And Gerês, of course. Fabulous!

Day 3 - Gerês to Bragança (10 jun)

We headed north, again through the Gerês National Park, until we reached Spain. We went back down through the park and continued on to the Montesinho Natural Park. We continue along narrow, winding roads and explore the Montesinho plateau. Barren land with distant views, so simple and so rich. We slept in Bragança, a city in the interior that had enormous historical importance due to its proximity to the border, and that now regains its relevant role due to the presence of the university.

Day 4 - Bragança to Bragança (11 jun)

In a circular loop, we continue through the magnificent Montesinho Natural Park, exploring all the corners and surprises in one of Portugal’s best kept secrets. An essential visit to Mirando do Douro, where you can see the river flowing through its deepest gorges. Maybe there’s still time to take a trip to our neighbor Spain!

Day 5 - Bragança to Trancoso (12 jun)

We leave behind the preserved Montesinho Natural Park. The extreme northeast of Portugal is still a mystery for many Portuguese!
We continue through the Douro Internacional Natural Park. This is a wild, isolated area of the country, dotted with several charming historic villages that were, in their day, of strategic influence, and feature beautiful castles. One of our visits will be to Figueira Castelo Rodrigo, which is classified as one of the 7 wonders of Portugal, in the “Authentic Villages” category. A little further south, we find our accommodation in Trancoso, located in a fantastic granite area.

Day 6 - Trancoso to Trancoso (13 jun)

Another circular and unforgettable loop. Historic villages are our destination. The fortified town of Belmonte, with its strong Jewish traditions or Almeida, known for its fortress, which, with its shape of a twelve-pointed star, constitutes one of the most spectacular European examples of 17th century bulwarked defensive systems, are just a few of the highlights of our day.

Day 7 - Trancoso to Nelas (14 jun)

On the last day we head south, we cannot miss visiting the highest point in mainland Portugal. After passing Covão de Ferro and its dam, we reach the eastern headwaters of the Zêzere river, whose valley of glacial origin deserves a stop to enjoy the view.
After exploring the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, winding roads and incredible views will guide us to our farewell lunch!
